In Basra, Iraq, 2003, I was an unembedded journalist witnessing British troops battling with units of the feared Saddam Fedayeen paramilitary who were holed up inside the city.

When the Bush Administration launched its invasion of Iraq, I entered from Kuwait as a non-embedded journalist, and spend the first weeks of the war in and around the Southern City of Basra, which was a major battle between British troops and units of the feared Saddam Fedayeen paramilitary who were holed up inside the city.
